  • The City of Santa Clarita will break ground on the Haskell Canyon Bike Park next Tuesday, July 1, at 10 a.m.—the new park in Haskell Canyon Open Space will offer over 15 miles of mountain biking trails and world-class amenities with construction expected to finish in Winter.  Hometown Station
  • On Wednesday’s warm summer evening, Santa Clarita unveiled River of Lights at Central Park where nearly 2,000 residents gathered to enjoy live music and a flag raising. At 8:30 p.m.—200 lights illuminated the park’s walkways and the 14-foot sculpture When Cloud Met a Cloud by artist Sujin Lim, creating a festive glow.  Hometown Station

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • L.A. County firefighters were dispatched at 1:10 p.m. on June 26 to a brush fire in Val Verde after a fire training exercise ignited nearby brush and arrived at 1:11 p.m. to find a 1-acre blaze in medium fuels that may expand to 10 to 20 acres (the fire originated at the Del Valle Regional Training Center).  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • A new Chipotle opened yesterday at 16388 Village Way in Canyon Country and is open every day from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. The restaurant, which offers a limited-time Adobo Ranch dip and is hiring about 30 employees, is the fifth local location—expanding dining options and job opportunities in Santa Clarita.  SCVNews.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Valencia High student Ava DiNapoli, age 16, earned second place in impromptu speaking at the 2025 National Speech and Debate Tournament held in Des Moines from June 15 to 20—she composed her speech in just two minutes on the topic of nepotism. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo D-Chatsworth advanced two bills to ease financial burdens for residents near the Chiquita Canyon Landfill by exempting relief funds from tax and allowing mortgage pauses for homeowners within a five-mile radius—covering areas like Castaic, Valencia and Stevenson Ranch. The bills also suspend property tax penalties until April 10, 2030—protecting families facing increased costs from the ongoing landfill crisis.  SCVNews.com
  • Santa Clarita’s 2025-26 budget allocates over $60 million to improve roads with funds for crosswalk safety, traffic systems, vehicle upgrades, and street treatments plus a $60 million extension of Dockweiler Drive in partnership with The Master’s University.
