ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Officials said a land shift may have caused a gas line rupture north of Northlake Hills Elementary along Ridge Route Road near I-5; crews isolated the 34-inch pipeline Saturday evening and removed the damaged section while installing a temporary bypass ahead of permanent repairs.  Hometown Station

  • KHTS Restaurant Row brings featured deals with certificates available from local favorites including Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt, Bélla Salon, La Michoacana Plus, Telly’s, SCV Cleaners and Guanatos Tacos.   • Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is accepting applications for its Deputy Explorer Program, a career opportunity for young people ages 14 to 20 (with a 2.0 GPA minimum) through Jan. 22.  SCVNews.com
  • The California Highway Patrol launches its New Year’s Holiday Enforcement Period today at 6 p.m. (Dec. 31) and will run until 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 1. Officers urge drivers to plan ahead and choose a sober ride option.  Hometown Station
  • Caltrans announced lane closures on the 5 Freeway near Castaic for pavement rehabilitation Tuesday — one lane in each direction between Lake Hughes Road and two miles north of Templin Highway will close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and closures may change due to weather or material factors.  Hometown Station

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mountain West Food Group recalled nearly 2,900 pounds of raw ground beef after USDA tests detected possible E. coli O26 contamination. The 16-ounce, grass-fed packages, produced Dec. 16, were distributed to retailers in states including California — consumers are advised to discard or return them.  Hometown Station

  • Sean O'Brien has been hired as head coach for West Ranch football next season on the Wildcats, returning for his second tenure after serving from 2009 to 2012 + he replaces TJ Yonkers who resigned after a 2-8 season.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
