  • Throughout December, the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley spread holiday cheer across Clubhouses in Canyon Country, Newhall, Val Verde and Castaic with Santa visits, gift giveaways, and teen-led volunteer work (gift wrapping at Valencia Town Center and cupcake deliveries to a senior center).  SCVNews.com
  • California Highway Patrol launches its Holiday Enforcement Period today in Santa Clarita to curb speeding drivers this holiday season — the effort runs from 6 p.m. today to 11:59 p.m. Thursday and builds on last year’s operation that issued numerous citations.  Hometown Station

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A box truck went off the roadway and struck a power pole near Grapevine Road on Tuesday, Dec. 23, causing a multi-vehicle crash that blocked northbound I-5 lanes until responders cleared the delay.  Hometown Station

CRIME NEWS

  • LASD is asking residents to help locate missing 26-year-old Drew Barrick Russell, who was last seen on Dec. 22 at 11:26 p.m. on the 20700 block of Plum Canyon Road and has known medical conditions – he may be headed to Modesto and anyone with tips should contact the Missing Persons Detail.  Hometown Station

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pixar’s 'Elio' received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture, Animated and will compete at the 83rd Annual Golden Globes airing Sunday, Jan. 11. The film was directed by three CalArts alumni (Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, and Adrian Molina).  SCVNews.com
  • Santa Clarita families can enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of SoFi Stadium, which offers three tour options including the NFL Experience (a visit to the NFL West Coast headquarters). The tours are available on select days as a quirky Christmas gift for sports fans.  Hometown Station
  • Princess Cruises held a christening in Pasadena to name its float Star Princess via a bottle break of organic tequila. Artistic Entertainment Services built the float with 300,000 flowers (a nod to its design), debuting at the New Year’s Day Tournament of Roses Parade to launch the 2026 Alaska season.  SCVNews.com
  • On Dec. 23, 1997, construction workers grading the Northlake site in Castaic uncovered human remains tied to a private cemetery on Lazy Z Ranch (a longtime local landmark); the remains, of four adults and one infant, were later reinterred at Eternal Valley’s Garden of the Pioneers.  Hometown Station

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Santa Clarita Transit has announced its updated holiday schedule that adjusts commuter routes for Christmas Eve today and for New Year’s Eve on Dec. 31, with routes 799-794, 796-791, and 797-792 running modified midday service. Local and 757 routes run normal times, Christmas Day has no service, and New Year’s Day runs a Sunday schedule.  Hometown Station

  • The Sultana Sultans beat the Saugus Centurions 2-1 on Dec. 22 at Saugus High School when Ivan Vitela scored a late tap-in goal. Coach Seth Groller said his team will work on defending corners as they prepare for the Hart Showcase next week.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
