  • At the Castaic Care Center, staff showcase a gentle 12-year-old cat named Kuzco available for adoption due to his calm, affectionate nature. Visitors can meet him today during shelter hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Hometown Station
  • Sky Zone Trampoline Park holds its grand opening and ribbon cutting from 4:30-5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18 at 26573 Carl Boyer Drive. Local residents are invited to visit the new facility and explore its attractions — a welcome addition to the community.  SCVNews.com
  • Paul Butler, a Santa Clarita resident, explains that serving on his new HOA board at the Magic community teaches lessons in teamwork and budgeting much like a workplace.   • JCI Santa Clarita is asking community volunteers to sort, wrap, and deliver toys for its annual Santa’s Helpers Toy Drive from Dec. 1 to Dec. 12 in the Santa Clarita Valley. CULTURE NEWS

  • Poets, dreamers and storytellers have until Sunday, Dec. 14 to submit original poems for the 2026 Sidewalk Poetry Project themed 'Share a Santa Clarita Secret.' Winners will earn a $150 stipend and be featured on the city’s public art app directory (open to all ages).  SCVNews.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Nov. 22, West Ranch and Valencia High Schools earned top honors at the SCSBOA Championship, with West Ranch winning first in 5A and Valencia taking first in 2A at Martin Luther King High in Riverside.   • Local official Ron Perry, who served as mayor four times and on the City Council until a gerrymandering decision ended his tenure, urged that Cameron Smyth be asked to serve as CEO of College of the Canyons.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Los Angeles County officials credit efforts by law enforcement, educators and community advocates with cutting overdose deaths by 22 percent and fentanyl-related losses by 37 percent. They plan to expand public education and prevention measures to further protect communities.  SCVNews.com

  • Both boys and girls Foothill League soccer seasons kicked off last week with wins by Hart and Saugus on Dec. 2 and 4. Upcoming fixtures on Dec. 8, 9, and 11 — which include matchups like Hart hosting non-league Santa Paula and Saugus at Valencia — will continue the season.  SCVNews.com
  • Friday night's Foothill League basketball games ended with scores of Saugus 64, Canyon 50 and West Ranch 79, Castaic 59 for the boys, and Saugus 57, Canyon 44, West Ranch 60, Castaic 23, Valencia 66, Hart 17 for the girls.
