COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On November 15th, runners braved a heavy downpour at The Paseo Club in Valencia for Bridge to Home’s second annual Turkey Trot and completed a 5k event. Over 200 participants—including families, children, and pet owners—raised funds to support local efforts that provide shelter, warm meals, and essential services to those facing homelessness.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Local partners are offering free Thanksgiving food distributions to help families handle rising costs this holiday season. Events will be held at community sites including today in Northridge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—on Nov 22 in Valencia and Canyon Country and on Nov 26 at Northridge, with some events requiring reservations.  SCVNews.com
  • Santa Clarita is hosting a busy holiday calendar with events including the 23rd Annual Festival of Trees running November 21—23 at Canyon Country Community Center and a Soiree Musicale with The Master’s University Chorale today at 7:30 p.m. Other highlights include the Agua Dulce Women’s Club Holiday Boutique, Santa’s Workshop Boutique at Hart High School, Mission Opera’s ‘Amahl And The Night Visitors’ on November 22, plus ongoing nature programs and farm visits for families.  Hometown Station

  • The Santa Clarita Valley All-Voice Barbershop Chorus will hold its 'Christmas Dreams' concert on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Elks Lodge in Canyon Country—featuring classic barbershop tunes and guest performers like the Blue Plate Special Quartet and CalKids Voices of Santa Clarita Youth Chorus.  SCVNews.com
  • The comedy 'Native Gardens' by Karen Zacarias, presented by HOPE Theatre Arts, is opening today at The MAIN theater in Old Town Newhall and will run until Nov. 23.  SCVNews.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College of the Canyons welcomed longtime community leader Gary Cusumano Tuesday as he toured the Institute for Culinary Education following a $1M endowment in memory of his wife, Diana Cusumano. The gift will create a scholarship fund and support program upgrades — the building will be renamed the Cusumano iCUE in spring.  Hometown Station
  • Dr. Colleen Hawkins, superintendent of Saugus Union School District, announced Wednesday that she will retire on July 1 after 8 years in the role—citing personal challenges and a desire to spend more time with family. The district also reported that a 5-year-old from Northpark Elementary left an after-school program to wander about a mile to McDonald’s, marking the second such incident since 2019.  Hometown Station

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Santa Clarita Mail Processing and Distribution Center will handle hundreds of millions of mail pieces and packages this holiday season using new state-of-the-art sorting machines—28 barcode sorters, five input output systems, and three flat sorting machines—to boost capacity in its 602,000 square foot facility. Nearly 1,000 workers operate the center, which is set to manage the expected surge in volume.  SCVNews.com

  • The Cube is hosting Girls Try Hockey For Free Day on Nov. 22 from 12 to 2:30 p.m. for girls ages 5 to 10 to try ball hockey and on-ice Learn to Skate sessions where skates are provided - each registration includes a free LA Kings game ticket, a T-shirt, and a scrunchie.  Hometown Station
  • The Saugus Centurions are in the CIF Southern Section football playoffs semifinals for the first time since 2017 after coming from behind in each of their last three home wins — including a last-minute kick by Jacob Blickhan. They will travel 86 miles to face the Apple Valley Sun Devils on Friday at 7 p.m., with their strong offense expected to be key to the win.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • West Ranch claimed the Foothill League title as the girls’ flag football season ended while Castaic made a CIF-SS championship run. Hart’s receiver Jessica Gutierrez was named Player of the Year after leading with 1,367 receiving yards — Savannah Patton of West Ranch earned Defensive Player of the Year and Daniella Escamilla of Vasquez received Offensive Player of the Year.  Hometown Station
