COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Nov. 7, the Kiwanis Club of Santa Clarita hosted an Our Community Salutes luncheon at Sand Canyon Country Club to honor 50 post-high school military enlistees—each receiving a challenge coin and a booklet featuring the Constitution—with speeches from Renard Thomas and retired Marine Major General Mike Fahey before more than 200 attendees gathered; the club will host a similar ceremony on May 16 to honor high school enlistees.  Hometown Station
  • The Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Light Up Main Street on Saturday, November 15th took place outside the Old Town Newhall Library where the tree's lights lagged a few seconds behind the snowflake lights—drawing cheers from the crowd. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Santa Clarita neighborhood of nearly 200 residents lost power on Saturday due to an electrical fire near Mill Valley Road — Meadow Mont Street in Valencia as Southern California Edison works to restore service with 189 people still affected.  Hometown Station

EDUCATION NEWS

  • During Wednesday’s meeting, the College of the Canyons governing board approved a timeline for the CEO/president search after campus forums collected input from in-person sessions on Oct.21–22 and online surveys from Oct.21 to Oct.27. Key feedback focused on leadership, transparency and fiscal management amid audit concerns + the search will begin with website finalization on Dec.1 and open applications on Dec.5.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Registration for College of the Canyons' Winter 2026 session is now open and will run from Jan. 5 to Feb. 7 — offering over 340 courses in person, online, or hybrid formats along with more than 80 free short-term classes at local community centers; these classes include general education and CTE courses that help students meet degree or transfer goals.  Hometown Station

SPORTS NEWS

  • Friday night's playoff games finished with Saugus beating Calabasas 28 to 27, Palm Springs defeating Hart 22 to 21, and Pioneer beating Trinity 14 to 6 — scores from the Division 7 CIF-SS playoffs added excitement to local football.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
