- ➤ On November 10, 1929, near the current Santa Clarita Metrolink station, former convict Tom Averill—also known as Buffalo Tom—derailed a train to rob passengers of about $300 before law enforcement identified him and his crime led to a life sentence at Folsom Prison. Hometown Station

- ➤ Old Town Newhall will become a winter wonderland on Nov. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. for Light Up Main Street—presented by DrinkPak—with a tree lighting led by the City Council at 5:30 p.m. and family-friendly activities including live shows and local food options. SCVNews.com

- ➤ Hot and windy conditions with an elevated fire risk hit Santa Clarita earlier this week—today and tomorrow will feature cooler temperatures as the air transitions, and rain will arrive by Thursday. - ➤ The California Water Commission will meet on Nov. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at Vista del Lago Visitors Center to update on State Water Project construction and modernization programs.
