- ➤ KHTS will start playing Christmas music on Friday, Nov. 7 as its regular tunes are replaced by festive holiday sounds through the New Year—sponsors Providence Holy Cross and Mission Valley Bank support this shift. - ➤ Santa Clarita hosts a busy lineup of events this week—today featuring Salute to Patriots at Bella Vida Senior Center from 4 to 6 pm and Wine Under the Roof at SCV Senior Center from 6:30 to 10 pm. Upcoming highlights include a Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Historical Plaza on November 11th and a Filipino-American history festival with live music and food on November 8th. Hometown Station
- ➤ The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control is celebrating Animal Shelter Appreciation Week from Nov. 3 to 7 to honor its staff and volunteers who cared for nearly 33,000 animals this year. - ➤ On November 5th, 1913, California opened the Los Angeles Aqueduct to bring millions of gallons of water from Owens Valley to the new Van Norman Reservoir, changing Los Angeles and Santa Clarita. - ➤ Local leaders and dignitaries attended the recent Silents Under the Stars fundraiser at William S. Hart Park where a 100-year-old silent film called Tumbleweeds was shown with live music by Ray Lowe and a silent auction raised funds for park animal care—city officials said owning the park from Los Angeles County is a milestone and that a movie screen and sound system will be added soon for family movie days. - ➤ On November 1, the College of the Canyons Paralegal Studies Department celebrated its 20th anniversary at the University Center. The event drew over 70 people including alumni, faculty and advisory board members — and featured alumni speakers sharing how the program aided diverse access to legal services. Hometown Station
- ➤ In September, College of the Canyons Society of Physics and Engineering Students launched a high-altitude balloon that carried a custom bio-aerosol sampler designed to collect microorganisms in the stratosphere. - ➤ The College of the Canyons has been granted candidate accreditation for its Occupational Therapy Assistant program that will enroll 28 students and start in fall 2026 at the Valencia campus with in-person classes Tuesday through Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. Applicants must complete seven prerequisite courses and register for a Zoom session (registration is needed by 3 p.m.) between March 2 and March 31.
