  • Acton resident Frank Navarro, 47, died in a head-on crash on Sierra Highway near Vasquez Canyon Road on Oct. 29 — his family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral costs, with his son saying any donation is appreciated.  Hometown Station

  • College of the Canyons’ Small Business Development Center will offer a free webinar series titled 'Enhancing Your Digital Footprint Webinar Series' on Wednesdays—Nov. 12, 19 and 26 from 12–1 p.m.—to help local business owners boost their online presence.  SCVNews.com
  • Santa Clarita-area business owners and professionals will attend a free Business Growth Summit hosted by United Business Owners Solutions in Valencia on Nov. 8. The event will feature a seminar on tax changes under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act—led by tax expert Edward A.   • The Santa Clarita Film Office released a list of seven productions filming in the valley from Monday, Nov. 3 to Saturday, Nov. 8. The list includes TV shows such as S.W.A.T. Exiles and NCIS: Origins, feature films including Sacred Evil and Girl Dad, a commercial, and two student films—showing sustained local film activity.  SCVNews.com
  • On Oct. 30, 10 local poets were honored at the Sidewalk Poetry Dedication at The Main in Old Town Newhall as their words were etched in concrete under a sidewalk rehabilitation program that began in 2019—celebrating Santa Clarita’s artistic spirit. EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Nov. 1, the College of the Canyons marked 20 years of its paralegal studies program at the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center with over 70 alumni, faculty, and advisory board members attending. The program, approved by the American Bar Association, has awarded 326 associate degrees and 94 certificates since 2005 and prepares students for legal careers.  SCVNews.com
  • Students from SCVi Charter School will present their aerospace projects at the TK-7 Aerospace Learning Showcase on Nov. 14 on campus from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The free event features interactive projects from Transitional Kindergarten to 7th grade — local leaders will attend and present certificates of recognition — as part of the school’s first semester of aerospace learning.  SCVNews.com
  • The Saugus Union School District board held its first property disposition meeting last week at Bridgeport Elementary to review Santa Clarita Elementary’s closure due to seismic repair costs and legal guidelines. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today at 7 p.m., the William S. Hart Union High School District board will meet in person at the Administrative Center to gather public input on naming a new athletic facility at West Ranch High School and to consider a proposal for the district to share $300,000 in cost for a new Daktronics scoreboard for Santa Clarita Aquatics Center — speaker cards will be accepted beginning at 6:30 p.m.  SCVNews.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Older residents in Santa Clarita are advised by the National Institute on Aging and AARP to modify their homes with changes like step-free entrances, grab bars, and walk-in showers—measures that help reduce fall risks and support independent living.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • The CIF-Southern Section playoffs are set to begin Friday when four local teams—Valencia, Hart, Saugus, and Trinity—host first-round football games, while Santa Clarita Christian will play its match on Saturday.
