  • The Canyon Country Boys and Girls Club at Thomas E. Dierckman Clubhouse thanked Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo on Wednesday for securing funds that upgraded the clubhouse with new carpet, tile, lighting, flooring and restroom renovations. The club also celebrated Site Director Araceli Arreola—recognized for her years of service and leadership in community events.  Hometown Station
  • On Oct. 30, Spectrum awarded Single Mothers Outreach a $5,000 Spectrum Employee Community Grant to support local single parents with essential services such as clothing, supplies, classes, and mental health support (its fourth grant brings total donations to $30,000).  SCVNews.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the Hart district’s first Drug Prevention and Awareness Symposium held at Valencia High School on Wednesday, MarLee Perez shared her journey battling substance abuse and mental health challenges—crediting her brother’s support and a strong network that helped her approach 10 months of sobriety. The event also featured law enforcement and health experts and was supported by a $50,000 grant from Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger to fund future prevention efforts.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Arroyo Seco Junior High was named a 2025 California Blue Ribbon School—one of 31 schools recognized for closing academic gaps and strong performance in math and English. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, the AQMD announced a new rebate program to help single-family homes replace gas or propane heating appliances with qualified heat pumps—offering up to $2,500 and doubled rebates in over-burdened areas. The first-come, first-served pilot fund of $21 million will be detailed in a Zoom session next month for replacements made on or after July 1.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Santa Clarita Valley residents will get extra sleep as clocks are set back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 2 to end Daylight Saving Time — the shift means an earlier sunrise and sunset, and officials advise drivers to be extra cautious during lower light conditions.  Hometown Station
  • Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo will donate $10,000 to food resources (40th Assembly District) to help feed people as delays in CalFresh benefits affect more than 5.5 million Californians.  SCVNews.com

  • Cezanne Youmazzo is the new general manager at Henry Mayo Fitness and Health Club in Valencia — she brings over 20 years of leadership and wellness management experience and will focus on strengthening community health — according to the news release.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Santa Clarita public health officials reported that rabid bats have been found in yards, garages, patios, pools, and window screens from March through October this year. Officials advised residents to avoid touching bats and to keep pets vaccinated—since unvaccinated animals were exposed—to reduce the risk of rabies.  Hometown Station

  • Kirby is a playful 1-year-old pit bull mix at the Castaic Animal Care Center who came in as a stray and quickly charmed staff with his fun energy and rough play—he weighs about 45 pounds and needs careful introductions around other dogs. SPORTS NEWS

  • On Halloween night, while many teens were trick-or-treating, the Saugus football team clinched its first playoff berth since 2022 with a thrilling win over Golden Valley. Matt Long scored three touchdowns and made a key interception — sealing a 32 to 29 victory — and secured the team’s playoff future.  Hometown Station
  • West Ranch won 34-20 over Canyon Springs in the quarterfinals after a 14-14 halftime tie and will face King High School today at 5 p.m.—coach Mark Hornberger praised the team’s hard work and focus on every play.  Hometown Station
  • College of the Canyons women’s golf won the Western State Conference team and individual titles on Oct. 27 with sophomore Sahya Kitabatake named Player of the Year for the second straight season—The Cougars will host the two-day 3C2A Southern California Regional Championships beginning Nov. 9 at Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura.  SCVNews.com
  • On Halloween night, the Valencia Vikings beat the Coyotes 63-0 to cap off their season with their biggest win and a seven-game streak, while the winless Coyotes ended a hard season with many injuries.
