COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Seventeen years ago, deputy Randy Hamson was fatally injured while investigating a traffic collision on Sierra Highway and died on October 24, 2008 after serving five years with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Today, the department honors his memory (his dedication and sacrifice remain deeply respected) as a lasting reminder of his service.  Hometown Station

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On October 24th, 2019, the wind-driven Tick Fire burned 4,615 acres in the Canyon Country and Saugus areas, destroying 29 structures—24 of which were homes—and leading to evacuation orders for 15,000 residences.  Hometown Station

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Santa Clarita invites community members to attend the 2025 Sidewalk Poetry Dedication on October 30 at 5 p.m. at The MAIN in Old Town Newhall—selected poets will read their winning works while a map guides guests to view the sidewalk poems.  Hometown Station

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Wednesday’s board meeting, the Hart district AI Taskforce introduced a traffic light system—red for prohibited, yellow for limited, and green for approved—to help teachers use AI responsibly, boost student learning, and address rampage cheating.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Arroyo Seco Junior High School — part of the William S. Hart Union High School District — was named one of 31 2025 California Blue Ribbon Schools by the California Department of Education for closing achievement gaps and showing high academic performance.   • Nineteen employees were honored as Classified Employees of the Year on Wednesday night at the William S.   • No. 6 College of the Canyons women’s soccer team won 9-0 over Glendale College on Oct. 21 with Bailey Williamson scoring a hat trick and other players netting additional goals—placing the Cougars at the top of the Western State Conference, South Division.  SCVNews.com
  • The Master's University women's soccer team beat La Sierra 5-0 on Oct. 21 in Santa Clarita, with Kegan Brunnemann scoring a hat trick—Breanna Fajardo and Maddy Traylor also scoring from 27 total shots versus nine.   • On senior night, the Valencia Vikings beat Hart 38-7 to secure their third consecutive Foothill League title today. The team led by Ellias Holloway, Brady Bretthauer, and Brian Bonner will face Castaic on Halloween while Hart enjoys a bye before playoff play.  Hometown Station
  • College of the Canyons freshman Emma Chodur placed fifth at the ITA Cup with a 2-1 record during the tournament held Oct. 16-19 at Rome Tennis Center—she won her fifth-place match after qualifying at the 3C2A Southern California Region Women’s Singles Championship held Sept. 26-28 at Fullerton College.
