  • Locally owned Tide Cleaners in Valencia celebrated its grand opening this past weekend with live music, a spinning prize wheel, raffles, and giveaways including Tide-branded items and discount coupons. The new store at 27011 McBean Parkway now offers dry cleaning, laundry, and alteration services — with home pick up and drop off for community convenience.  Hometown Station
  • A Night with the Stars will be held at 5 p.m. Nov. 1 at 26415 Carl Boyer Drive in Santa Clarita to raise funds for the Castaic Animal Care Center. The event will feature local celebrities, community leaders, live entertainment by Rocky Folk, an auction, and raffle prize drawings — tickets cost $75 for one or $100 for two.  SCVNews.com
  • The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station will host its 34th Annual Halloween Carnival and Haunted Jailhouse on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—featuring live entertainment, food trucks, a Friday the 13th scare and costume contests for all ages.   • Santa Clarita announced a special Halloween-themed pet adoption event called 'Paws at the Park' as part of its third annual Pet Adoption Week, set for Nov. 1—giving residents a chance to meet adoptable pets and join the festivities.  SCVNews.com

  • Local teen author Alessandro Concas will host a book signing and reading of his novel Life of the Time Cat on Oct. 25 at Color Me Mine, inviting local children and their parents to attend.  SCVNews.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Hart district board honored 18 Teachers of the Year for the 2025–26 school year—math teacher Nicholas Patey at Golden Valley High School was named Teacher of the Year—and praised the educators for their strong impact on student learning.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • School Day Café will host its circus-themed School Nutrition Food Fair on Thursday from 4:30–6:30 p.m. at Bridgeport Elementary School, 23670 Newhall Ranch Road, Valencia, for students, families and staff from Castaic, Newhall, Saugus and Sulphur Springs districts.   • Saugus Union School District officials announced that the CAASPP results for the 2024-25 school year show improved test scores for grades 3-6—students achieved a 2.76% increase in English language arts and a 2.25% increase in mathematics, with gains in writing and English learner progress that reflect stronger instructional support.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The National Association of Social Workers honored Diane Trautman as Volunteer of the Year and Barbara Wilson as Social Worker of the Year in Santa Clarita last month for their work supporting local mental health programs — Trautman managed an online resource and Wilson founded Mental Health Hookup to help families find care.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Our Lady of Perpetual Help hosted its annual Health and Wellness Fair in Newhall on Oct. 19, offering free ultrasounds, flu shots and CPR demonstrations to Santa Clarita residents. SPORTS NEWS

  • Valencia girls’ golf clinched the Foothill League title by defeating West Ranch by 23 strokes at Vista Valencia Golf Course on Oct. 16. Coach Robert Waters said the strong performance will boost the team’s confidence heading into the CIF Southern Section playoffs starting Oct. 27.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • West Ranch girls won their first Foothill League championship last week with a 12-2 record and played the Chaparral Pumas at 5 p.m. on October 21 in the first round of the playoffs.  Hometown Station
  • College of the Canyons women's volleyball team won a 3-1 conference match at Antelope Valley College on Oct. 17 after freshman Addison DeGard served eight aces and Martina Neveleff tallied 13 kills—securing back-to-back wins. The Cougars will play Citrus College today at 6 p.m. before hosting Glendale College on Oct. 24 as they trail one game behind Santa Monica College in the Western State Conference standings.  SCVNews.com
