COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At one of Santa Clarita's busiest intersections, protesters gathered on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway for the 'No Kings 2' rally, which joined tens of thousands nationwide in opposing what organizers said was government overreach — local leaders reported record-breaking attendance at the event.  Hometown Station
  • World War II veterans Ken Placek, 102, and Don Kuehl, 101, were honored with custom-made Quilts of Valor during a Coffee 4 Vets gathering at Crazy Otto’s Diner in Canyon Country — they shared war stories and received quilts that took 30 to 40 hours of labor to craft. The event celebrated the sacrifices these veterans made for freedom and reinforced the community’s remembrance of their contributions.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The Michael Hoefflin Foundation hosted its fifth annual 'Paddle for the Battle' pickleball fundraiser on Oct.12 at The Paseo Club + about 200 players competed to support children facing cancer and help families in need. CULTURE NEWS

  • On Friday, October 19, a fire destroyed the Acton Hotel, a local landmark built in 1890 by Richard F. Nickel that also held the town post office. The fire began after 9:20 p.m. and spread quickly—townspeople saved records while arson was suspected amid a dispute between owner Samuel H. Schorr and manager Clarence Rush.  Hometown Station
  • October offers a variety of spooky events in Southern California—Santa Clarita will host a two‐night screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at The Centre on Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 starting at 11:30 p.m., while other venues in the region plan cemetery film nights, costume contests and immersive live shows. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Los Angeles judge blocked the Humidor Battery Energy Storage System project in Acton after ruling that county approval did not follow proper zoning rules—residents had argued that rules were bent to approve it. The decision stops Hecate Energy’s plan to build a 12-acre facility with 440 battery cabinets.  Hometown Station

  • Santa Clarita families have an autumn treat as local and nearby farms offer pick-your-own adventures with a variety of apples, pumpkins, berries and more—visitors should check each farm’s website for hours and harvest updates before heading out.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday night, West Ranch earned its first Foothill League football win this season with a 21-19 victory over Castaic at Valencia High School. The Wildcats now head into their final two games with new hope—improving both offense and defense.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Seven Santa Clarita Valley girls’ volleyball teams will begin their CIF playoff runs with first-round matches on Tuesday and Wednesday at local high schools at 6 p.m. West Ranch and Pacifica Christian play on Tuesday while Canyon, St. Bonaventure, San Gabriel Academy, Norwalk, and Santa Clarita Christian play on Wednesday—each matchup crucial for advancing in the postseason.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
