  • Pumpkin patches across the Santa Clarita Valley offer families fun seasonal activities and pumpkin picking opportunities—Gilchrist Farm, Valencia Town Center, Enchanted Cemetery Pumpkin Patch, Santa Clarita Pumpkin Patch, Prancer’s Farm, Sanchez Produce and Bennett’s Best Christmas Trees host events like animal visits, wagon rides, bounce houses and trick-or-treating through Halloween.  SCVNews.com
  • Animal shelter volunteers at Castaic Animal Care Center said that Buddy, a 6-year-old Miniature Pinscher and Chihuahua mix weighing 16 pounds, needs a rescue commitment by the end of day Monday to avoid euthanasia.   • A Bowman High School graduate died in a single-vehicle crash in North Hollywood at about 1:45 a.m. on October 3—firefighters rescued both occupants, with the surviving passenger later dying in hospital and a GoFundMe launched to help cover funeral expenses.  Hometown Station

CULTURE NEWS

  • Residents in Santa Clarita are enjoying Halloween as creative home haunts, family-friendly mazes, and detailed yard displays light up neighborhoods like Valencia, Newhall, and Castaic—providing immersive experiences on various evenings from Oct. 11 through Nov. 1. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nonprofit Yes I Can Unity Through Music and Education is launching an internship program this October during National Disability Employment Awareness Month to help local businesses hire young adults with disabilities. The program already led to a permanent role for intern Jake Arvizu at LA North Studios — it will provide employers with creative talent and hands-on guidance for participants — inviting businesses in Santa Clarita to join.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • California Institute of the Arts announced its new BFA program in Creative Computing that will enroll its first students in fall. The program (offering specializations in Game Design, Music Technology, Coding for Design, Spatial Computing, and Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence) will combine art and technology to prepare students for creative industry careers.  SCVNews.com

  • Santa Clarita residents can drop off household hazardous waste and e-waste today at College of the Canyons South Parking Lot, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — The free event accepts items such as antifreeze, car batteries, used motor oil, and paint so toxic materials can be safely recycled.  Hometown Station

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Santa Clarita City Manager Ken Striplin said Tuesday that the city cracked down on its decades-old curfew law after complaints about teens gathering in parks and parking lots, drinking, fighting, and setting off fireworks (a video showed a teen smashing a bottle) with increased patrols that detained 31 juveniles (part of a recent sheriff’s operation) to keep neighborhoods safe.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • At Tuesday's City Council meeting, City Manager Ken Striplin and community members, including resident Keith Lobert — who has raised these concerns for seven months — discussed growing e-bike safety issues on local paseos. The city plans to install 110 new signs and continues working with the Sheriff’s Station — which has issued citations since March — to boost rider education and enforce the rules.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital celebrated four graduates who completed the year-long PathPoint Project SEARCH program that trains adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in job skills. They join 21 alumni who finished internships since 2017—rotating through departments such as Materials Management, Environmental Services, Food and Nutrition Services, Cafeteria Dining Commons and Sterile Processing.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • Robert Lamoureux shared practical tips for homeowners planning yard updates at an older Saugus property. He advised removing old grass and weeds, laying new sod, and planting trees at a safe distance from buildings (checking mature size and root spread) to avoid future problems.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Ranch girls' flag football team clinched the Foothill League title with a 34 to 0 win over Valencia on Oct.15, finishing with a 12 to 2 record that earned them a playoff spot in the Division 4 playoffs. They will play on Tuesday at Chaparral at 5 p.m.—Coach Mark Hornberger praised quarterback Hailey Hornberger for her leadership during a tough season.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The Hart girls’ flag football team finished second in the Foothill League after a 32-6 win over Canyon, while West Ranch won the title by beating Valencia — officials came one hour late causing a delay. Coach Josh Masmela said the girls played well and now will meet Royal High on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Hart High School in the Division 4 playoffs.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • West Ranch won a close league game Friday night against the Castaic Coyotes by a final score of 21—19, with quarterback Blake Johnson scoring key touchdowns and helping force turnovers. Coach T.J. Yonkers said his team will focus on strong finishes as they prepare to host Golden Valley next week at Valencia High School while Castaic faces Saugus.  Hometown Station
  • The Canyon girls’ volleyball team got a playoff spot with a four-set win over Hart on Oct 15—the scores were 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, and 25-19—as they bounced back from an earlier loss to the Hawks.
