COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On October 13, 1876, Newhall was founded at Bouquet Junction, marking a key moment in Santa Clarita history — two years later the town moved about two miles south to Railroad Avenue and 8th Street.  Hometown Station
  • The Santa Clarita Veterans Services Collaborative has responded to the resignation of five board members by refuting allegations of financial mismanagement and confirming that 55% of revenue has gone to direct veteran programs—supporting over 2,000 local veterans annually. The organization will continue operating its Newhall center and expand veteran support services despite the board changes.  SCVNews.com
  • Los Angeles County Public Works and the city of Santa Clarita will hold a Fix it Clinic on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.—the event will take place at the Valencia branch of the Santa Clarita Public Library.  SCVNews.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Oct. 12, the Fine Arts Festival in Old Town Newhall brought together work from 23 local artists with live chalk art, face painting, and art lessons. Organizers said the event helped people share their stories + connect over creativity.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The Hart District Film Festival will take place Feb. 20 at Valencia High with high school film, music video, and animation submissions open in the William S.   • Santa Clarita will host a late-night screening of the 50th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at The Centre—set for Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 at 11:30 p.m.—inviting local fans to join this time-warping celebration.  SCVNews.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College of the Canyons will host its free Fall 2025 Star Party on Friday, Oct. 24—featuring a keynote by Dr. Athina Peidou from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and telescope sessions led by local astronomy clubs—at the lower plaza next to the Takeda Science Center. The event will run from 6-9:30 p.m. and include interactive science updates and a food truck offering meals.  SCVNews.com
  • iLEAD Agua Dulce, a tuition-free public charter school, is launching its Campus Legacy Project to help students work together on programs like garden beds and an outdoor amphitheater—teaching hands-on STEM skills while beautifying the campus.   • The National Weather Service said a flood watch went into effect Monday at 8:00 p.m. for the Santa Clarita Valley—and evacuation warnings were issued for parts of Castaic as heavy rain expected to bring nearly 2 inches may trigger flooding and debris flows on burn scars.  Hometown Station

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Oct. 23, the Santa Clarita Valley Mayor’s Committee will host a brunch at William S. Hart Hall at William S. Hart Park from 9 to 10:45 a.m. to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, where local leaders including Mayor Bill Miranda and others will share insights on workplace inclusion + connect community members with new job opportunities.  SCVNews.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Master’s University women’s volleyball team won a five-set match against the OUAZ Spirit after nearly 2 1/2 hours of play on Oct. 11 at The MacArthur Center. The win ties them for third in the GSAC standings and they will face the Life Pacific Warriors on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.—boosting their season momentum.  SCVNews.com
  • Maddy Traylor and Kegan Brunnemann each scored two goals as The Master’s University women’s soccer team defeated ACU 7-0 on Oct. 10 in Glendale, Ariz—Bryanna Elias added two goals and an own goal helped secure a season-high win.
