- ➤ In celebration of Adopt A Shelter Dog Month, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control waived dog adoption fees at its seven centers on October 11 to promote pet adoptions. The department also partnered with L.A. County Library to hold adoption events—some held on October 11 and additional ones scheduled for October 16, 23, 29 and 30—to help families facing pet challenges. Hometown Station
- ➤ Santa Clarita residents gathered Saturday for the annual Purple Walk Domestic Violence Awareness 5K to support the Child and Family Center's domestic violence services—registration began at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast from Hello Subaru of Valencia, and funds raised went toward emergency shelter, a crisis hotline, counseling, legal aid and education programs for survivors. - ➤ Local residents lined up early Saturday at 19013 Golden Valley Rd., Unit 135 in the Plaza at Golden Valley for Dog Haus Santa Clarita’s grand opening—where the first 50 guests received exclusive merchandise and rewards members enjoyed free Haus Dogs. A live DJ, face painting and happy hour specials kept the festive celebration going until 11 p.m. Hometown Station

- ➤ On October 11, 1885, Hortense Reynier Walker was born—she later united two pioneer families by marrying Frank Evans Walker and helped establish a homestead near Placerita Canyon. - ➤ The Hart Hawks beat the Castaic Coyotes 49-0 on Friday night at Canyon High School—keeping their undefeated record in the Foothill League as junior Matix Frithsmith scored multiple touchdowns.
