  • The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce will host its 15th annual Salute to Patriots on November 5 from 4-6 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, Bella Vida, and nominations for veterans who have positively impacted the local business community will be accepted until Oct 19.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • On September 26th, 1876, Pico Canyon’s Well No. 4 erupted and became the first commercially productive oil well in the American West—marking the start of California’s oil industry. Drilled by Charles Alexander Mentry, the well’s success turned the area into Mentryville, a boomtown that once hosted over 100 families.  Hometown Station

  • At College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, VIA held a luncheon where local business owners learned how to become authorized LA28 vendors—experts advised early registration and careful preparation of proposals to stand out.   • Former Golden Valley High School football player Shane Tamura, identified as the perpetrator of the July mass shooting at an office building in Midtown Manhattan that killed five & injured six, was found with low-stage CTE based on a detailed exam by the NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • The city of Santa Clarita launched Santa Clarita Connect to combine Santa Clarita Transit, Go! Santa Clarita, Dial-A-Ride and Access Services into one mobile app. The app lets riders book trips with payment options — cash, TAP card, TAP mobile app, or token — so they can easily plan their rides.  SCVNews.com
  • On Sept. 24, five board members resigned from the Santa Clarita Veteran Services Collaborative after alleging that nearly 90% of its revenue since 2019 was spent on overhead. The resignation letter—signed by two new members among others—stated that funds were improperly directed to groups such as PFLAG SCV and NAACP—raising concerns over financial oversight.  Hometown Station
  • The Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency will hold a virtual meeting on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. to update residents on the construction progress and timeline for the new S Wells PFAS Treatment and Disinfection Facility located along Bridgeport Lane + between Bridgeport Park and the Santa Clara River. The project will remove PFAS from three wells and restore up to 4,000 gallons per minute for more than 6,500 households.  SCVNews.com
  • Rep. George Whitesides visited the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center in Newhall on Sept. 26 to warn that the federal budget may harm local health care by cutting Medicaid and ACA funding—he noted that nearly 240,698 Medicaid recipients in his district could face care disruptions.   • Cocoa, a 3-year-old, 58-pound Alaskan Husky, is available for adoption at the Castaic Animal Shelter after her owners were deported—shelter officials say she is energetic, housetrained, and enjoys playing fetch with other dogs.   • On Friday, Valencia beat Saugus 55 to 17 to extend its Foothill League win streak to 15—quarterback Brady Bretthauer threw for 193 yards and four touchdowns as the Vikings controlled the game.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
