COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce announced the 15th annual Salute to Patriots event that will honor local veterans on November 5th at 4:00 p.m. at The SCV Senior Center—Bella Vida. Nominations for the event will be accepted until October 19th.  Hometown Station
  • Santa Clarita finished several milestone projects this past year including a River of Lights ceremony at Central Park and the grand opening of Pioneer Oil Refinery Park. Next week residents will enjoy the renovated Old Orchard Park with a futsal demonstration while a new Rink Sports Pavilion now offers indoor sports and events for the community.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley & Child & Family Center will host 'Unite Against Domestic Violence,' a free event at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Child & Family Center on Centre Pointe Parkway to raise awareness and share resources on domestic violence. Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo and Sheriff Capt. Brandon Barclay will speak about efforts to protect victims and reduce local domestic violence calls.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Santa Clarita will host a variety of community events as GraceFest takes place at Castaic Lake on September 27 and the County Fire Pickleball Summer Slam Tournament starts at 7:30 a.m. on the same day, while concerts, art festivals, and sports programs are scheduled through early October—residents should confirm details with organizers as dates and plans may change.  Hometown Station

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Los Angeles County is installing 23 billboards on digital panels, transit shelters and printed posters as part of its Shop Local. Dine Local. Recover Local. campaign to help small shops hurt by the January windstorm and wildfires—residents are urged to shop and eat locally to help recovery, with ads running through November.  SCVNews.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Golden Valley teacher Nicholas Patey was named Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year on Sept 19 and now will compete in the California Teacher of the Year contest.   • Carol Stevenson, a local PR expert and owner of Noteworthy Communications, is teaching two free online communications courses this fall through College of the Canyons School of Personal & Professional Learning—Public Speaking in the Workplace runs Oct. 20 to Nov. 1 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. while Strategies & Tactics of Public Relations runs Nov. 3 to Nov. 26 on Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m.—to help students improve practical media and presentation skills.  SCVNews.com

  • During National Disaster Preparedness Month, Los Angeles County’s Animal Care and Control urged pet owners in Santa Clarita to pet-proof homes, create safe spaces, update vaccinations, secure identification, and prepare emergency kits — steps that will help keep pets safe during emergencies.  SCVNews.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a week of high-scoring games, the Foothill League brings major rivalry matchups as Saugus faces Valencia, Golden Valley plays Hart, Canyon takes on Castaic, and Trinity goes on the road to Calvary Chapel. Friday's games include a 7 p.m. start for Trinity at Calvary Chapel and a 3:30 p.m. kickoff for Santa Clarita Christian at Chadwick—each contest set to shape team rankings and playoff hopes.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Makea and Makeli Leonard from Saugus will represent Samoa at the FIFA U-17 World Cup starting Oct. 17—discovered by a local high school coach, they attended training camps in Irvine and Dallas before being selected.   • County Fire Pickleball will host the 2025 Summer Slam Tournament next Saturday at The Paseo Club — the event will benefit a firefighter who suffered a life-changing medical emergency on duty. Check-in will begin at 7 a.m. for select divisions and teams will register until Friday for a $60 fee.  Hometown Station
  • Santa Clarita Christian girls volleyball rebounded from two losses in a row as the team swept Palmdale Aerospace Academy Griffons with scores of 25+18, 25+9, and 25+12 to notch their seventh Heritage League win of the season.
