  • Rose Rowsey celebrated her birthday on Saturday at The Break Room in Newhall and will turn 100 on Sept. 18—she credits strong faith and exercise for her energy and independence.   • Local settlers Thomas Finley Mitchell and the Lang family started the Sulphur Springs School District on September 16 and it has served students in the eastern Santa Clarita Valley for over 150 years—showing how pioneers helped build a modern community.  Hometown Station
  • SCV sheriff's deputies will host the Tip-A-Cop fundraiser at Lazy Dog Cafe at the Valencia Mall on Tuesday, September 23rd from 5 to 9 p.m. to raise funds for Special Olympics Southern California by serving guests and collecting donations—this event follows a successful fundraiser earlier this year and is part of the national Law Enforcement Torch Run.  Hometown Station

  • Book lovers in Santa Clarita have an offbeat adventure at The Last Bookstore—which offers three unique spaces in Southern California for exploring books, vinyl, and art. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On the two-year anniversary of his passing, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved renaming the Castaic Sports Complex to honor former deputy Ryan M. Clikunbroomer for his service and sacrifice. The board also directed the Department of Parks and Recreation to work with the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs and the Parks Foundation to create an annual scholarship for youth programs at the complex—ensuring his legacy endures.  SCVNews.com
  • Representatives Whitesides and Allen introduced the bipartisan Contract Postal Unit Transparency Act to require USPS to publish reports and hold public hearings before closing contract postal units such as the Quartz Hill post office, whose contract was abruptly terminated.   • The Santa Clarita Planning Commission approved the Wiley Canyon Mixed-Use Project Tuesday, certifying its Final Environmental Impact Report for a development that includes a senior and assisted-living facility, condominiums, commercial space and recreation amenities along Wiley Canyon Road between Calgrove Boulevard and Hawkbryn Avenue.   • The Master’s University senior Hannah Ulibarri, a member of the women’s golf team, was named the NAIA Champions of Character Award winner for her honesty during the National Championship last May — she reported a score card error even knowing it would disqualify her, and her decision earned respect for fair play.  SCVNews.com
  • On Sept. 13, The Master's University men's soccer team lost 3-2 at Reese Field on Senior Day to the Stanton Elks despite Trent Rickard scoring two second-half goals.
