COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Castaic Animal Care Center will host an Emergency Preparedness Adoption Event on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—offering pet adoptions, a live Fire Department demonstration, and a Touch-a-Truck activity for kids. The shelter will remain open all day and waive adoption fees until 5 p.m.  Hometown Station
  • SCVi Charter School held a First Responder Assembly on Sept. 11 to honor those who protect our community; Chad Powell led the event that featured special guests from Fire Station 143 and the Sheriff’s station+ students examined a fire engine and vehicles and later gave thank-you cards to first responders at a PTSA reception.  SCVNews.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • On September 12, 1952, Hart Auditorium opened its doors at William S. Hart High School in Newhall and became a 600-seat hub for school plays, concerts, and community events. The venue stood as a symbol of Santa Clarita’s growth—marking a key moment in the valley’s history.  Hometown Station

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Santa Clarita Sister Cities and the city announced the winners of the 2025 Young Artists and Authors Showcase where students beat 340 entries from 10 countries by earning awards in art, writing, music, and photography (local winners include students from Saugus High, Academy of the Canyons, and Rio Norte Junior High). Two students, Sydney Kasahara and Chloe Pichereau, won at the international level and their work can be viewed online.  SCVNews.com
  • After a closed session on September 12, the Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees placed Interim Superintendent/President David C. Andrus on administrative leave and named Dr. Jasmine Ruys as Acting Superintendent/President to keep college operations running smoothly — the board will name an Interim Superintendent/President soon and complete a nationwide search for a permanent CEO by July 1.   Hometown Station

  • The Santa Clarita Planning Commission will hold a regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers — continuing the public hearing for the Wiley Canyon Mixed Use Project Master Case 20-238.  SCVNews.com
  • SCV Water received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for its clear fiscal report ending June 30—demonstrating effective communication of financial details and project plans that earned the honor two years in a row.  Hometown Station

HEALTH NEWS

  • Stevenson Ranch resident Robin Blate is planning to lead drum circles at senior centers in the Santa Clarita Valley—she believes drumming boosts health and social connection. SPORTS NEWS

  • In the Foothill League, West Ranch girls volleyball swept Hart with set scores of 25-10, 25-12, 25-11 and remains undefeated while Valencia and Canyon also secured wins; in the Heritage League, Trinity Classical Academy swept Vasquez and Santa Clarita Christian beat St. Monica Academy in a four-set match—both leagues have key contests scheduled for Tuesday.  Hometown Station
  • Hart defeated Heritage Christian 49-34 on Friday night as quarterback Jacob Paisano threw four touchdown passes and led key plays, and the team will host undefeated Saugus in their Foothill League opener on September 19.  Hometown Station
