COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Santa Clarita will host its annual Hiking Challenge at William S. Hart Park from Sept. 13 to Dec. 31—inviting residents to complete seven trails and awarding a custom park shirt to the first 50 finishers.  Hometown Station

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man in his 20s died in a motorcycle crash on Monday evening in Newhall as deputies and emergency crews responded to a collision near the Via Princessa overpass on Railroad Ave at about 7:15 p.m.—preliminary details indicate speed and intoxication were not factors and his identity is pending next of kin confirmation.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

CRIME NEWS

  • A Valencia man, Gavin Gilmore, was arrested on felony kidnapping charges on Friday evening after he allegedly forced his ex-girlfriend to get into his car at her residence on the 28000 block of Dickason Drive—she refused and called 911, leading deputies to arrest him and book him at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail on $100,000 bail.  Hometown Station
  • Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Missing Persons Unit is asking the public for help to locate an at-risk missing man in Santa Clarita—investigators want any tips that could lead to his location.  SCVNews.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Santa Clarita families can plan a weekend visit to the Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar, where they will see over 250 restored vehicles and unique exhibits. The museum will be open for self-guided tours from Thursday to Saturday between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.—admissions are $5 for adults with free entry for children 12 and under while guided tours by appointment cost $20 for visitors age 10 and older.  Hometown Station

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students who missed the start of fall can enroll in over 455 late-start classes at College of the Canyons — featuring five-, eight-, and 12-week accelerated courses offered online and at Valencia and Canyon Country campuses — and registering qualifies them as returning students for winter. Registration provides an opportunity to catch up or add extra classes for academic progress.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The Santa Clarita Valley School Food Services Agency will serve free meals to students in the 2025-26 school year under the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs—covering the Castaic, Newhall, Saugus, and Sulphur Springs school districts. The program is offered through the California Universal Meals Program via the Community Eligibility Provision.  Hometown Station

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo launched a tax relief website for families affected by the Chiquita Canyon Landfill to guide them on accessing tax relief under the new law. Her office worked with the Franchise Tax Board—providing clear instructions on forms as she promised to push for more property tax relief for those impacted.  Hometown Station

  • Most SCV football teams won only three of 10 non-league games last weekend and are using this final tune-up before Foothill League play starts Sept. 19. The Saugus Centurions—currently 3-0—will face Hueneme on Sept. 12 while Hart may see a forfeit after Bishop Montgomery suspended its varsity program.  SCVNews.com
