  • The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce and its Latino Business Alliance announced a Hispanic Heritage Celebration—Awards and Networking Reception scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 17th at 5:30 p.m. at the Centre in Santa Clarita. The event will honor C&M Mechanical Heating and Cooling and Dr. Chris Raigosa for their key contributions to the local business community.  Hometown Station
  • The Castaic Animal Care Center issued a 72-hour notice for Seco — a 2-year-old Labrador mix waiting for adoption since July — who weighs 43 pounds and plays well with other large dogs while needing extra training.  Hometown Station

  • Santa Clarita resident Jayson Dumenigo and his company Action Factory LLC will be honored on Oct. 14 with an Emmy Award for Engineering, Science & Technology for developing innovative Play’n with Fire Hydrogels—designed to protect performers during fire stunts, and he was previously recognized with an Academy plaque for his work on the John Wick spinoff Ballerina.  SCVNews.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified Sinai Barraza, 18, as the driver killed in a fatal collision on Thursday afternoon in Canyon Country on the 17000 block of West Sierra Highway—her Toyota crossed into northbound lanes and struck an air-conditioning van whose driver was transported with stable injuries while investigators ruled the incident an accident with no evidence of drugs or alcohol.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Deputies recovered nearly 3000 lethal doses of fentanyl plus cocaine and other drugs during a welfare check in Canyon Country earlier this week after a resident reported a man slumped over in a parked vehicle, and the 35 year old suspect was arrested on multiple charges.  Hometown Station

  • Circle of Hope (a nonprofit cancer support group in Santa Clarita Valley) announced its first poetry collection 'In Awe of Becoming' to share personal reflections and offer comfort to cancer survivors.  SCVNews.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rep. Whitesides introduced a bipartisan bill on Thursday to reauthorize the FireGuard program that uses Department of Defense satellites to detect wildfires and alert firefighters. The bill will extend the program for five years and require regular DoD reports on its effectiveness — a measure aimed at strengthening wildfire response in communities such as Santa Clarita.  Hometown Station
