  • The city of Santa Clarita will host the final SENSES Block Party on September 18 from 7—10 p.m. on Main Street in Old Town Newhall with an Oktoberfest theme.  SCVNews.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Santa Clarita Concessions, a family-owned business founded in the 1950s by Gene Burke, was honored as the fourth-oldest business in Santa Clarita at a Valley Industry Association mixer — the awards recognized decades of service and community support. Owner Lisa Burke said the company remains dedicated to fast local service and upholding its family legacy.  Hometown Station

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday, deputies responded around 1:30 p.m. to a call at the Saugus In-N-Out Burger drive-thru (26400 block of Bouquet Canyon Road) where 60 year old Matthew Fuller from Santa Clarita passed out behind the wheel with an open can of beer and an open 24-pack found inside the car, his blood alcohol content measuring 0.18 and he was arrested on DUI charges before being released on Sept 2 with a court date scheduled.  Hometown Station
  • Earlier this week, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Crime Impact Team and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Bureau arrested a suspected drug dealer believed to be trafficking narcotics — evidence of drug sales and a sawed-off shotgun were recovered at his residence in Canoga Park.  Hometown Station

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After seven years of litigation over a solar installation at Canyon View Estates, the court ruled on August 26 that the defendants are entitled to legal fees capped at the amount the City spent on its own counsel—at least $3,247,597.58. The decision noted that nearly all of the installation met open-space rules and reversed most of the City's earlier claims.  Hometown Station

SPORTS NEWS

  • Santa Clarita high school football games are set for today at 7 p.m.—undefeated Valencia and Saugus face tough matchups while several teams still seek their first win this season.  Hometown Station
  • Saugus girls' volleyball won a tough five-set game against Valencia—25-16, 21-25, 25-21, 19-25, and 15-8—and earned their fourth win of the season. The team will play the Pasadena Bulldogs at 3 p.m. today in the Whittier tournament.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • College of the Canyons sophomore Victoria Jamison won the San Diego Cross Country Kickoff event on Aug. 29 with a 12:20 finish on the 2-mile course at Harry Griffen Park — her win helped her team finish second while the men's squad placed third. The Cougars will run next at the Crush Invitational on Sept. 6 at Woodward Park in Fresno.  SCVNews.com
