  • Valley Relics Museum founder Tommy Gelinas donated the iconic Saugus Speedway scoreboard sign, which was kept in storage for eight years, to the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society nearly 20 years after the track closed. The sign will be displayed at Heritage Junction in Newhall once the society covers the crane and removal costs & raises funds through its GoFundMe campaign.  Hometown Station

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Planet Fitness announced that its new club in Valencia at 27716 McBean Pkwy will open Sept. 6th at 10 a.m.—featuring a Ribbon Cutting event with local snacks and giveaways. CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies arrested Angel Santiago, 34, on Monday after he fled on a bicycle from Tractor Supplies in Canyon Country where he took about $500 in merchandise and was found with methamphetamine—he now faces felony theft and controlled substance charges.  Hometown Station
  • A 17-year-old alleged sexual assault suspect was arrested Tuesday morning after a high-speed chase in a stolen silver Hyundai—reportedly driving over 90 mph on the 14 Freeway near Escondido Canyon Road in Agua Dulce—that ended in a rollover crash with the teen sustaining minor injuries and a female passenger reporting pain.  Hometown Station

EDUCATION NEWS

  • All 14 schools in Saugus Union School District are honored as America’s Healthiest Schools for the 2024-2025 school year after being selected as All Stars by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation—recognizing the district's strong commitment to student physical and mental health. Superintendent Dr. Colleen Hawkins said the award reflects the dedicated efforts of educators and staff in making the schools healthier.  SCVNews.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SCV Water will update its Urban Water Management Plan to boost long-term water supply, conservation, and climate resilience—this effort will engage the community through an online workshop on Zoom on Thursday, Sept. 11 from 6—7 p.m. Participants will help shape the plan’s priorities and next steps for the region.  Hometown Station
