COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Child & Family Center will host the 2025 Purple Walk Domestic Violence Awareness 5K on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 8–11 a.m. to raise funds for its domestic violence program in Santa Clarita. Funds will support free services such as emergency shelter, a 24-hour hotline + counseling and legal advocacy for those in abusive situations.  SCVNews.com
  • Santa Clarita Volunteers is seeking more than three dozen volunteers for the Veteran Services Collaborative event Marching On on Saturday, Sept. 13, 6—9 p.m. at Santa Clarita Studios.  SCVNews.com

  • The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, representing over 65,000 business employees, now offers several Business Councils that support members with topics from government issues to small business and cultural interests.   • The California Highway Patrol will send all available officers to the roads this Labor Day weekend—an effort to stop impaired drivers before they cause harm.  SCVNews.com

  • Santa Clarita Film Office announced that seven productions began filming in the valley on August 25 and will continue until August 30 — the list features NCIS: Origins, SCE Clean Energy Campaign, The Climb, Busted, RAW, We Used to Hunt and Callback — to bring varied film projects to local screens.  Hometown Station

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College of the Canyons ranks 14 statewide in a new ROI analysis of 327 institutions—its students recoup costs in just 0.3 years and earn a median salary of $49,022 10 years after enrollment. The college also leads 25 L.A. County community colleges in the Northern L.A. region.  SCVNews.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The two Super Scoopers—contracted from Quebec—will return to LA County to fight brush fires in Santa Clarita and nearby areas, arriving at Van Nuys Airport by the end of the month with a 12-person crew. Each aircraft can hold 1,600 gallons of water and is on a 90-day lease that may be extended if fires continue.  Hometown Station

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Aug. 23 in Fullerton, The Master’s University women’s volleyball team beat the No. 6 Southern Oregon Raiders in three sets to improve to an undefeated record this season—Macy Gebhards led with 14 kills and Kate Wagner provided 13 assists. They will play at the CSM Labor Day Classic on Aug. 29 before beginning GSAC play on Sept. 6.  SCVNews.com
