  • Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library in collaboration with Santa Clarita Valley Libraries will host a silent Book Auction from 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22 until 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29 at all three local library branches.   • Despite online rumors following Hank Arklin's death, property owners confirm that The Original Saugus Cafe, which opened in 1886, will continue serving the community as longtime operator Alfredo Mercado prepares for retirement—new management will be introduced soon.  Hometown Station

  • A wanted Bakersfield woman was arrested Wednesday after allegedly speeding on the 5 Freeway near Castaic, and CHP officers said her white Infiniti reached 114 mph before she was taken into custody & now faces charges for reckless driving, possession of controlled substances, and an outstanding felony warrant.  Hometown Station

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SCVi Charter School will host a Community Back to School Night on Sept. 4 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at its Castaic campus + families can join classroom sessions and campus tours to learn about the school’s project-based curriculum and special programs.  Hometown Station
  • The Hart District has named Brian Necessary as the new principal at Arroyo Seco Junior High School — Christopher Printz as the new assistant principal at Golden Valley High School.  SCVNews.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at City Hall to review a proposal to expand the Hartwell mixed use project into 98 apartments and 6,300 square feet of retail space—while also appointing a new planning commissioner from 11 applicants and considering a $65 million bond resolution for The Master’s University and Seminary.  SCVNews.com
