- ➤ The city invites residents to the annual Evening of Remembrance on Wednesday; the event starts with a 7:15 p.m. walk led by SCV Sheriff’s Station Capt. - ➤ SCV Water approved a construction contract on August 19 for a new PFAS treatment facility near Bridgeport Lane that will remove harmful chemicals from water produced by three local wells+ the $23.9 million project is partly funded by state and federal grants with construction set to begin in October and last 18 months. - ➤ Rep. George Whitesides wrote to Acting IRS Commissioner Scott Bessent to question the Sept. 30 closure of the Santa Clarita IRS office that currently serves over 740,000 taxpayers and helps residents with tax issues, noting the shutdown will force locals to travel up to 87 miles and burden employees relocated to Glendale—raising significant service concerns during tax season. Suzette Martinez Valladares from Santa Clarita introduced an amendment to ACA 8 on Aug. 21 to add safeguards in redistricting—and the measure bans lawmakers who support it from running for office for 10 years to ensure fair congressional maps.
