- ➤ A brush fire broke out in Valencia Tuesday just after 12 p.m. on Camino Saguaro and Avenida Rancho Tesoro, burning two acres of light to medium fuels while no structures were threatened and firefighters worked to contain it. Hometown Station

- ➤ A Santa Clarita repeat offender, Hayden Mysko, was arrested after deputies located a stolen Honda Accord near Chiquella Lane in Stevenson Ranch—marking his third arrest in two months as he remains in custody. Hometown Station
- ➤ Marlen Carrillo-Godinez, 33, from Canyon Country was arrested August 5 after an argument over an assigned parking spot at an apartment complex on Rock Rose Lane turned physical when she allegedly grabbed a key + pepper spray from a victim who received on-scene treatment. Hometown Station
- ➤ Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department’s Special Victims Bureau are investigating 41-year-old Luis Humberto Chinchilla Mejia for sexually assaulting two adult women between March 3 and May 17, 2024—he was arrested on August 1 at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station with bail set at $1,200,000 and investigators suspect he may have assaulted more victims. - ➤ Santa Clarita Valley schools are setting back-to-school dates with junior high and high schools in the William S. Hart Union reopening on Aug. 12 and elementary schools opening on Aug. 11, Aug. 13, or Aug. 14 — colleges will start later with College of the Canyons on Aug. 25, The Master’s University on Sept. 1, and California Institute of the Arts on Sept. 8. - ➤ College of the Canyons was chosen by the Umoja Community Education Foundation to join a statewide network — starting fall, the college will launch a program that offers a village space for academic support and mentoring for African American and other underrepresented students.
