  • Clients and staff at Child & Family Center gathered on July 28 for Family Fun Nite on the center’s campus where families enjoyed food, music, games, and a BBQ provided by Santa Clarita Elks Lodge 2379; the free event offered interactive activities and a welcoming space for connection.  Hometown Station
  • Santa Clarita offers many upcoming community events including Concerts in the Park with Redneck Rodeo on August 2nd, a tribute to Bruno Mars on August 9th, Society Improv’s comedy show on August 2nd and the Café con Leche networking meeting on August 5th—ongoing activities feature water adventures at Castaic Lake, nature walks at Placerita Canyon and farm visits at Gilchrist Farm, with details subject to change by organizers.  Hometown Station

CRIME NEWS

  • A Canyon Country man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly punched someone at a brewery on the 25100 block of Rye Canyon Loop in Valencia— the victim was taken to a hospital and the suspect, 45-year-old Richard Anaya, was later apprehended on felony assault charges.  Hometown Station

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society reopened the Saugus Train Station Museum on July 26 at the Santa Clarita History Center in Old Town Newhall with a refurbished wooden angled counter (found during the remodel that matched a scene from a 1954 movie) and original railroad artifacts. The museum will be open on Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. (with Sunday hours expected later) as part of a three-phase restoration.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College of the Canyons will offer over 1,880 core course sections in the fall semester from Aug 25 to Dec 13—students will pay $46 per unit and classes come in 5, 8, 12, or 16-week formats. The School of Personal and Professional Learning will also provide more than 290 tuition-free classes while high school juniors and seniors can earn both college and high school credit with waived fees.  Hometown Station

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The L.A. County Regional Planning Commission approved The Trails at Lyons Canyon for 510 homes near Stevenson Ranch, which includes 71 affordable units and 47 very low-income rental units with 1.25 acres of open space per unit. Local residents raised concerns about the loss of native oak trees and high fire risks while New Urban West planned to invest millions in fire-safety measures—pending any appeal to the Board of Supervisors.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
