  • Just before 12 p.m. Tuesday, a vehicle caught fire on the northbound 5 Freeway one mile north of Templin Highway near Castaic and spread to nearby brush—firefighters later stopped the fire at 8 acres and closed the freeway lanes for at least two hours.  Hometown Station

  • During a traffic stop for expired registration on the 22800 block of Soledad Canyon Road last week, deputies found stolen IDs, forged checks, and counterfeiting equipment in a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Lancaster woman Lisette Pereira—she was arrested on felony forgery charges after an active warrant was discovered.  Hometown Station

  • The Santa Clarita Film Office announced that seven productions will film in the city from Monday, July 28 to Saturday, Aug. 2 + the lineup includes a YouTube series where IShowSpeed competes in sports challenges with top athletes, a prequel exploring NCIS origins, a documentary, a music video, and two commercials.  Hometown Station

  • The 30th Annual River Rally Cleanup and Environmental Expo is set for Saturday, September 20 from 8 to 11 a.m. along Wiley Canyon Road near Via Princessa Bridge, where volunteers must pre-register by September 19 to help clean trash from the Santa Clara Riverbed and can enjoy free coffee, breakfast snacks + Italian ice along with family-friendly activities.  Hometown Station

  • State Senator Suzette Martinez Valladares will host two grand opening celebrations next week for new district offices where community members can tour the offices and meet her staff. The Lancaster event at 42505 10th Street West, Ste 109 runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4 — the Santa Clarita event at 25060 W. Avenue Stanford, Ste 130 runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5.  Hometown Station

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Santa Clarita Wine Club has reopened membership for couples and singles who enjoy wine and food. The club, formed in 2023, holds monthly themed tastings and social events and charges a one-time $20 fee — it sells no wine during events.  SCVNews.com

  • Former College of the Canyons infielder Colin Yeaman was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the fourth round of this month’s MLB First-Year Player Draft—he was selected 124th overall.
