  • The City of Santa Clarita is working with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive on Friday, August 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Hall on Valencia Boulevard—residents are encouraged to donate to help meet the local need for blood.  Hometown Station
  • Los Angeles County Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger announced that three students will have their art shown on trash barrels at beaches — two of whom are from the Santa Clarita Valley. Third-grade Arcadia student Caitlyn Xu, fourth-grade Valencia student Kayla Lina Kim, and fifth-grade Castaic student Kylie Bennett won the 2025 Fifth District Can the Trash poster contest.  Hometown Station

CRIME NEWS

  • Santa Clarita police reported 41 arrests over the weekend, marking the fifth consecutive weekend with over 40 arrests—charges ranged from DUI, domestic violence and vandalism to theft and substance-related offenses, with 18 arrestees identified as visitors and 23 as non-residents.  Hometown Station

  • The Santa Clarita Film Office announced that seven productions will film in the valley from July 28 to Aug. 2 — including an Internet series, a music video, a documentary, two commercials, and two TV shows. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Santa Clarita is hosting its 30th Annual River Rally Cleanup and Environmental Expo on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 8-11 a.m. along Wiley Canyon Road near the Santa Clara river, where volunteers must pre-register by Sept. 19 to help clean debris, manage logistics, and enjoy extras like free transit, giveaways, and adoptable dogs showcased by Castaic Animal Care Center — the event marks 30 years of community river cleanup and education.  SCVNews.com

  • On July 28, the City of Santa Clarita reminded residents to recycle food waste by sealing scraps in a plastic bag placed inside their green bin.
