- ➤ At the Summertime of Hope adoption event on July 26 at Castaic Animal Care Center, volunteers and local businesses offered free magnets and grooming services to help families meet adoptable dogs—Laurie Adachi, who lost her pit bull last month, adopted a lively husky mix. - ➤ Soroptimist International of Valencia will host its 22nd annual fundraiser, Music of the Night: Bras For A Cause, on Sept. 27 at the Hyatt Regency Valencia to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer support in our community. The event will feature live models with hand-decorated bras, live and silent auctions, and sponsorships from The Law Office of Steffanie Stelnick and Trevino Law Firm — individual tickets are $160 and sponsorships range from $2,500 to $10,000. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On July 27, 1876, crews completed Tunnel Number 19 in Soledad Canyon (the final bore) when workers met deep under the San Gabriel foothills. Over 1,500 mostly Chinese laborers tunneled 223 feet of rock (a challenging feat) to join Los Angeles with the Antelope Valley, and a plaque in Santa Clarita now honors their work. Hometown Station
