  • Soroptimist International of Valencia will host its 22nd annual Bras for a Cause fundraiser—Music of the Night—on Sept. 27 at the Hyatt Regency Valencia to raise funds and awareness for local breast cancer support. Tickets cost $160 as the event supports programs that help women with education and economic empowerment.  SCVNews.com
  • Today, the City of Santa Clarita partnered with the Castaic Animal Care Center to host a pet adoption day at Bridgeport Park (23521 Bridgeport Lane) from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., where adoption fees are waived except for a $20 fee for dog licenses. Staff will help visitors learn about each pet, and attendees can also enjoy on-site activities such as a youth sports pop up and Library Express.  Hometown Station

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A two-car crash on Wednesday, July 23, at 12:42 p.m. on Decoro Drive and McBean Parkway in Valencia sheared a fire hydrant—no injuries were reported and authorities are investigating the cause.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested a 45-year-old parolee at a Stevenson Ranch hotel on July 10 after a search yielded one pound of narcotics including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and PCP (the suspect was wanted for assault on a peace officer), and they also arrested a 58-year-old man for possession for sale while citing a 26-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man for controlled substance possession.  Hometown Station
  • On July 10, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station deputies arrested a 45-year-old male parolee at a hotel on the 25300 block of The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch — his arrest was part of an investigation that dismantled a drug operation.  SCVNews.com

  • Valley Industry Association expanded its Connecting to Success program by hosting a special session at a local charter school on May 19 and will launch a dedicated session for the uniquely abled on July 30 — a move that supports its long-term goal to reach more students in the region.  SCVNews.com
  • Fostering Youth Independence held two summer Healthy Meals cooking classes for 30 local foster youth—teaching meal planning, grocery shopping, and basic cooking skills at Christ Lutheran Church—using funding from a city grant and volunteer chef Kristi Descher from College of the Canyons.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • California Attorney General Rob Bonta asked the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday to put the county's juvenile halls into state receivership because repeated failures to meet court orders have endangered the safety of youth. He cited unsafe conditions at Los Padrinos and Barry J. Nidorf juvenile halls—including overdoses, violence and unmet medical needs—and said a state-appointed receiver will manage the facilities to bring them into compliance.  Hometown Station
