EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fostering Youth Independence held two summer healthy meals cooking classes where about 30 foster youth learned to budget for groceries and prepare nutritious meals in a commercial kitchen donated by Christ Lutheran Church. Chef Kristi Descher from College of the Canyons led the sessions — the first program of its kind in the community — while a City of Santa Clarita Community Services & Arts grant provided the ingredients and supplies. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On July 20, 2001, then-Assembly Member George Runner introduced Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 98 to honor the historic Ridge Route Highway (California’s first mountain road built in 1914 and 1915). The resolution called on Caltrans to issue a permit for a monument and plaque (to be installed by E Clampus Vitus) at the convergence of State Route 126 and Interstate 5. Hometown Station
