County Fire Department officials are battling a 40-acre fire near northbound I-5 by Hasley Canyon Road in Castaic and have coordinated a second-alarm response while requesting fixed-wing aircraft after reports came in just before 2 p.m.—officials warn the blaze could expand to 100 acres in the next two hours and is severely impacting northbound traffic.

🏛️ Government
Santa Clarita City Council voted 3-2 on Tuesday to remove Denise Lite from her role as planning commissioner after Mayor Pro Tem Laurene Weste requested her resignation due to communication issues—most residents and local officials opposed the move, with 22 of 29 public comment cards supporting her retention. Lite denied the allegations, saying she only raised questions to promote transparency in council decisions.
Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved Sarah Mahin as the first director of the new Department of Homeless Services and Housing — the county is centralizing its homelessness and housing services.
Mahin, who oversaw a $875 million budget as Director of Housing for Health over the past six years — will lead community meetings as the county realigns these services.
Denise Lite was removed from the Planning Commission on Tuesday night by a 3—2 City Council vote after Mayor Pro Tem Laurene Weste said she did not communicate well, and she later announced her run for City Council.
The decision led to strong public criticism and sparked debate over transparency in council actions.
