  • Santa Clarita will host the 'Spirit of America' fireworks show at Valencia Town Center starting around 9:15 p.m. today, with the event organized by the city.  SCVNews.com
  • Guardians SCV is asking for sponsors for its annual Patriot Day Car Show & Breakfast, a free event scheduled for Sept. 6 at 28776 The Old Road.   • Hayden Mysko, 26, from Santa Clarita, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly shoplifting men's clothing worth about $53 from a department store on the 26400 block of McBean Parkway in Valencia—marking his second arrest for theft-related charges in less than one week.  Hometown Station
  • A woman who asked for a ride from the Bridge to Home homeless shelter on Wednesday around 9:10 p.m. almost was kidnapped when the driver ignored her request to be dropped off at Magic Mountain Parkway along The Old Road—she exited safely along Weldon Canyon Road, Sgt.   • Morgan Woodward — a folk legend, hit songwriter and actor — is honored on Santa Clarita’s Walk of Western Stars with a star near the roundabout at Newhall Avenue and Main Street in Old Town Newhall.  Hometown Station

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lucy Verlaque of Valencia made the dean's list at Washington College this spring by earning a 3.50 GPA among 450 students; local graduates Jonathon Roberts of Santa Clarita and Ashley Mina Song of Valencia received their bachelor of science degrees from Harvey Mudd College on May 18.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Santa Clarita Community College District’s Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee accepted an independent audit report from Eide Bailly that confirmed $15.6 million in Measure E funds were properly spent on campus upgrades such as Boykin Hall and Counseling offices. The audit (which reviewed 59% of expenditures) showed no adjustments or compliance issues and covered fiscal year 2023-24.  SCVNews.com
