ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Santa Clarita woman, identified as Holly Roehn, 47, was struck and killed by a Metrolink train on the 19000 block of Soledad Canyon Road Friday at 5:30 p.m.—the Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her death a suicide.  Hometown Station

CRIME NEWS

  • Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Deputies recovered a stolen work truck with thousands of dollars worth of tools on Friday in Canyon Country—witnesses reported two males unloading items before Palmdale officers located the suspect’s vehicle and arrested driver Jadeella Kyes, 25, on felony charges.  Hometown Station
  • The Santa Clarita Valley saw 23 arrests last weekend by the CHP Newhall office and the Sheriff’s Station for DUI, drug possession, domestic violence and other crimes—two suspects were arrested more than once, which is 5 fewer than the previous Father’s Day weekend.  Hometown Station

CULTURE NEWS

  • William S. Hart, the original cowboy star of silent films and a Santa Clarita resident, died at 83 on June 23rd, 1946, at California Lutheran Hospital with his son by his side — his longtime doctor said he passed without a struggle. He had battled declining health for months on his ranch in Newhall.  Hometown Station

EDUCATION NEWS

  • California Credit Union Foundation awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Saugus High School Senior Nathan Lieber—one of 20 college-bound students recognized for academic and community excellence. The award is part of the foundation’s annual College Scholarship Program supporting outstanding students across Southern California.  SCVNews.com
  • 9-year-old Vivian Seston at Santa Clarita Christian School launched a lemonade stand this month to raise funds for her class field trip to Sacramento scheduled for March 2026; she will host another sale on Wednesday, June 25 from 2 to 5 p.m. on Haskell Canyon Road—joined by classmates Tori and Ellie, Vivian aims to cover her trip costs while learning important business skills.  Hometown Station

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Santa Clarita received court approval to take full ownership of William S. Hart Park, a nearly 160-acre historic landmark, and will reopen the Ranch House to the public in July while assessing other historic buildings for future openings — a move to safeguard this community treasure.  SCVNews.com
  • Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo submitted a formal budget request letter Monday asking for more funds to fully implement Proposition 36, which boosts penalties for drug, retail and theft crimes and mandates treatment for repeat drug offenses. The current $110 million allocation is seen as only a starting point—additional funds are needed to equip law enforcement and courts for the new mandates.  Hometown Station
  • Today, the Santa Clarita City Council held a second reading on the MetroWalk housing project that may add nearly 500 homes in Canyon Country next to (Vista Canyon).
