- ➤ On Tuesday morning, Santa Clarita celebrated the grand opening of Pioneer Oil Refinery Park at the historic site of California’s first oil refinery built in 1876—its preserved oil tanks and trails now serve as reminders of the city's past and are joined by picnic areas—for this park is the city’s 39th. - ➤ A Santa Clarita teen from Hart High School fell on Mount Whitney last week while hiking with his father and is now in a Las Vegas hospital fighting for his life—he suffered a major skull fracture and other injuries after rescue teams took nearly six hours to reach him. Hometown Station

- ➤ Jersey Mike’s will open its 10th store at 16400 Village Way today and hold a grand opening and fundraiser until Sunday to benefit Sulphur Springs and Mitchell Canyon Elementary Schools. Customers with a special coupon must donate at least $3 with every regular sub purchase. Hometown Station

- ➤ Two Southern California men appeared in federal court Tuesday after being indicted on charges for the largest jewelry heist in U.S. history when thieves broke into a Brinks truck in Lebec on July 10 and stole 24 bags of jewels—authorities recovered some of the items on June 16. Hometown Station

- ➤ Eight projects have been filming in Santa Clarita since June 16 and will continue until June 21, including the popular YouTube series Alan’s Universe created by Alan Chikin Chow (with nearly 94 million subscribers) that tells simple stories about love and friendship. Hometown Station
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, Senator Suzette Martinez Valladares announced her bipartisan bills on affordability, public safety, and opportunities earned Senate approval and now head to the Assembly for review. Her co-authored bill to lower gas prices has moved to the Senate for further consideration — lawmakers will review the measures before they reach the governor. Hometown Station
- ➤ Tuesday night, three Planning Commission members voted 3—0 to approve a mixed-use project on Newhall Avenue with key changes. The plan features 106 apartments, 36 townhomes, 4,000 square feet of commercial space and includes conditions on a $325,000 donation and oak tree replacements pending final City Council action. - ➤ On Tuesday, Rep. George Whitesides of CA-27 raised concerns about plans to close the Quartz Hill Post Office and demanded that Postmaster General David Steiner explain its scope, reasoning, and economic impact—he said the closure will force residents to travel to another city and burden Palmdale and Lancaster post offices.
