  • Jersey Mike’s Subs will open a new location at 16400 Village Way on June 18, where franchise owner Stephen Youlios will host a grand opening fundraiser to benefit Sulphur Springs Elementary School and Mitchell Canyon Elementary School until June 22.   • The deadline for standard entries for the Santa Clarita Valley 2025 Fourth of July Parade has been extended to 5 p.m. today, with late entries accepted with a fee through Sunday, June 22—participants should register soon to join the event that will honor the city's 40th park on Friday, July 4.   • A small brush fire near Golden Valley High School in Canyon Country was quickly stopped on Monday morning — first responders reported it at 9:40 a.m. and firefighters said construction workers started the quarter acre blaze — preventing it from spreading further.  Hometown Station

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly punched a victim about eight times then put him in a chokehold at Kohl’s Shopping Center parking lot on Valencia Boulevard—he was later identified when he returned to the scene—and now remains in custody pending a court appearance.  Hometown Station

CULTURE NEWS

  • On June 16th, 1876, D.G. Scofield formed the California Star Oil Works and hired driller Alexander Mentry to work in Pico Canyon—an act that helped start California’s oil boom. Soon after, major oil flows were struck and a company town known as Mentryville developed near the drilling site.  Hometown Station

  • Santa Clarita Voices released its sixth podcast episode today, featuring behind-the-scenes wildfire aerial firefighting footage and safety tips for residents.
