COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Registration for the Fourth of July Parade is due tomorrow, June 15 for standard entries with late entries accepted until June 22 for an additional fee. The parade will start at 9 a.m. on July 4 in Newhall and follow Main Street, Lyons Avenue and Orchard Village Road — honoring the city’s new 40th park, William S. Hart Park, and drawing thousands of spectators.  SCVNews.com
  • Santa Clarita will host the River of Lights Illumination Ceremony on June 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Central Park (27150 Bouquet Canyon Road), where the Symphony Orchestra will perform and nearly 200 embedded lights will mimic flowing water. Families are encouraged to bring picnic dinners and lawn chairs (this free event promotes art, education and environmental awareness) as lawn games start at 7:30 p.m., the ceremony begins at 8 p.m., and lights are officially unveiled at 8:30 p.m.  Hometown Station
  • Girl Scouts Troop 882 made 100 cake kits to donate to the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry on Saturday morning as part of their silver award project, spending four months gathering supplies before assembling the kits in one day. The kits include cake mix, frosting, Sprite instead of eggs and oil, candles and instructions — the food pantry welcomed the donation.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • A Santa Clarita family mourns the sudden death of 16-year-old Alberto Castillo—known as Paquito—after he was struck by a vehicle while skateboarding Thursday night and has launched a GoFundMe to help cover funeral costs.  Hometown Station

  • A 16-year-old skateboarder—Alberto Castillo—was killed in a crash near Lyons Avenue in Newhall at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, officials confirmed.  Hometown Station

  • Santa Clarita City Council will join Los Angeles County Fire Department and other local agencies for a Summer Fire Safety Press Conference on Friday, June 20 at 9:00 a.m. at the Towsley Canyon Trailhead (24335 The Old Road) to show wildfire prevention measures, educate on illegal fireworks, and display emergency response vehicles for a family-friendly event.  Hometown Station
  • The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station held a Colors Run at Valencia High School Friday to honor fallen Deputy Pedro Pete Romo. His wife Natalie and family received symbolic gifts—a sheriff’s wreath made from his uniform and off-road helmets marked with the number 37—while cadets ran a four-mile course to remember his legacy.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • Santa Clarita has nine public pools with trained lifeguards and year-round swim lessons to help families stay safe in the water.
