Residents can explore interactive booths, watch live rescue demonstrations from city lifeguards and local emergency teams, and earn a free family swim pass by completing a stamp card—an event designed to boost water safety skills for summer. - ➤ The city of Santa Clarita is seeking volunteers for Community Beautification Day on June 28 from 9 a.m. to noon in Valencia—volunteers aged 8 and older must pre-register online and will help spread mulch at Valencia Glen Park while refreshing paseo bridges, and residents can also take advantage of free bulky item disposal and mulch pickup on Lochmoor Road. - ➤ Saugus High School Instrumental Music Program is hosting its third annual Clothes 4 Cash fundraiser to support new instruments, equipment repairs, competitions and student scholarships for summer band camp—The Marching Centurions will collect gently used clothing, shoes, backpacks, purses and bedding from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays June 14, June 21, July 12, July 19 and Aug. 16 at the southwest corner of the school parking lot near the trailers and tennis courts. - ➤ Elementary school principal Robin DesChamps of Charles Helmers Elementary School was arrested for DUI on Tuesday in Santa Clarita after a crash on Newhall Ranch Road and Fairfield Way left his blood alcohol level at 0.24—three times the legal limit—with no injuries reported. Hometown Station
- ➤ The principal of Charles Helmers Elementary School, 52-year-old Robin DesChamps, was arrested Tuesday evening on suspicion of DUI after a car hit a light pole—preliminary tests showed her blood alcohol level at 0.245 and she was placed on leave for the school year. - ➤ On June 7, the third annual Summer Breeze Music Festival took place at CalArts with live jazz, R&B and soul performances hosted by Terrell Edwards Top Entertainment that raised funds for local nonprofits – including the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry.
