- ➤ The City of Santa Clarita will host Water Safety Day on Saturday, June 21 at the Aquatic Center on Centre Pointe Parkway from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.—the free drop-in event will feature interactive stations with live rescue demonstrations and displays from local fire and sheriff’s officials. - ➤ Fostering Youth Independence welcomed its 200th foster youth yesterday as a milestone in supporting local youth aging out of foster care. Each youth is paired with a volunteer ally and given help with education, financial aid, and other essential services—demonstrating the organization’s commitment to a strong support network. - ➤ Yesterday the Salvation Army held its second annual Donut Day competition at Canyon Country Community Center where competitors stuffed donut holes in two minutes and winners received a trophy. - ➤ College of the Canyons is accepting applications for its new Pharmacy Technology program that will prepare students for entry-level technician roles in settings such as hospitals and retail—applications remain open until June 30 and the program will launch in fall. - ➤ On June 7, 2016, the Santa Clarita Community College District passed Measure E, a bond that provided $230,000,000 for construction upgrades at College of the Canyons to address rising enrollment and waitlists.
