Good morning, Santa Clarita. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 5th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Santa Clarita faces rapid development that risks its rural charm as new subdivisions and high density housing convert five acre lots in areas like Sand Canyon, Castaic and Agua Dulce—land prices have surged 22% since 2020. City officials and community members plan to update zoning codes and conservation measures to protect equestrian culture and open land.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The city announced that its Summer Trolley service is now running and will offer free rides through Monday, Sept. 1, connecting residents and visitors to key spots like Six Flags Magic Mountain & Old Town Newhall. Riders are urged to check the schedule and park hours before boarding.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Santa Clarita residents have a busy weekend ahead with events like the Summer Breeze Music Festival—starting Saturday, June 7 at the California Institute of the Arts, the 2nd Annual Donut Day at Canyon Country Community Center, and live theater shows including The Last Romance at local venues. Additional activities such as nature walks, farm visits and a one-dollar shuttle service offer more family fun, and organizers advise checking with hosts for any changes.  Hometown Station

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Los Angeles County approved a motion that backs the FIREWALL Act (S. 1323) to let homeowners claim a tax credit for upgrades that protect their homes from wildfires and floods following the January wildfires. The measure would offer credits for expenses up to $25,000 and full benefits for households earning under $200,000.  SCVNews.com
  • On Monday, the California State Assembly passed AB 535 — a law to protect crime victims and witnesses by closing a loophole that allowed threats at any stage of a case — which was sponsored by Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo. The bill, backed by both the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office and the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, now moves to the State Senate for review.  Hometown Station
  • The DMV warns Californians against social media ads that offer 50% off vehicle registration fees and ask for personal information through online payment apps—residents should use the official DMV website or confirmed partners for all services. The agency emphasized that it never provides discounts or conducts business on social media.  SCVNews.com
