COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On May 17th, Our Community Salutes & the Kiwanis Club held an enlistee recognition ceremony at Golden Valley High School Theater that honored 82 Santa Clarita high school seniors who will soon join the U.S. Armed Services. Over 300 community members attended the event to support the new enlistees.  Hometown Station
  • On May 31, 1891, Reverend F.D. Seward and 16 charter members established the First Presbyterian Church of Newhall on a 100 by 150 plot donated by George H. • SCV Explorers Class 112 were recognized as Deputy Explorers at a graduation ceremony held at the Santa Clarita Activities Center on May 31. The Explorer Academy—an 18-week program that trains youths aged 14 to 20 in law enforcement drills since 1969—awarded degrees from California Sheriffs to honor the graduates' agility and hard work.  Hometown Station

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Santa Clarita resident Denise Lite argued that every vote matters even when many believe the outcome is preset in a state with a supermajority—she stressed that local races affecting housing, taxes, and public safety can be won by narrow margins—urging voters to cast their ballots and sign a petition for voter identification. This advice comes as low turnout has handed disproportionate power to a small, motivated minority.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The California State Assembly passed two bipartisan bills on May 31 to help residents in Val Verde, Castaic and Santa Clarita who were exposed to toxic air from the Chiquita Canyon Landfill fire—AB 27 offers tax relief for aid while AB 28 sets new safety rules with fines for operators, and both bills now move to the Senate.  Hometown Station
