  • Rlynn Smith Thomas, president of the Santa Clarita NAACP, wrote a letter to the City Council opposing an amendment to the MetroWalk Specific Plan that would allow BluMax Santa Clarita LLC to pay an $800,000 in-lieu fee instead of building 49 affordable housing units—she said this change would worsen the housing crisis and urged officials to hold developers accountable.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Senator Suzette Martinez Valladares from Santa Clarita said on May 29th that Senate Bill 508—which expands telehealth options by allowing cancer patients to consult with their out-of-state doctors—passed unanimously out of the Senate; the bill now moves to the Assembly.  Hometown Station
  • On May 29, Los Angeles County filed a motion for a preliminary injunction against Chiquita Canyon Landfill to force stronger pollution controls—meant to lower harmful odors and protect residents in Castaic, Val Verde and Santa Clarita Valley— as part of its ongoing lawsuit.  SCVNews.com
  • The California State Assembly passed two bills to help families in Santa Clarita, Castaic and Val Verde who have suffered from toxic gas exposure at the Chiquita Canyon Landfill.
