- ➤ Santa Clarita nonprofits are invited to submit proposals for Make a Difference Day volunteer projects scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24. The city will coordinate volunteers and review submissions due by Friday, July 31 with responses by Monday, Aug. 3. SCVNews.com
- ➤ Dink for a Cause is a round-robin pickleball tournament supporting the National Marrow Donor Program scheduled for June 6-7 at 7:30 a.m. at The Paseo Club on Dickason Drive in Valencia, where everyone can join and enter a raffle, with registration closing June 2 at midnight. - ➤ On May 28, 2005, hundreds gathered in Old Town Newhall for the opening of Veterans Historical Plaza to honor American veterans. The plaza features memorial art, benches and story stations that continue to celebrate community heritage. Hometown Station
- ➤ The Santa Clarita Master Chorale will perform American Remembrance—celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with iconic works—on Sunday, June 7 at 4:00 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons. Hometown Station

- ➤ At a May 19 board meeting, Saugus Union School District reviewed its 2026 Connectedness Survey, noting a 20% rise in staff and 7% in family participation and better peer respect while fewer students liked school. - ➤ Canyon Country’s Uni Jeon and Alexander Browne earned spots on fall 2025 president’s lists at Ohio University and Mississippi State University by meeting strict GPA requirements. - ➤ 255 graduates celebrated a commencement ceremony at Cougar Stadium at College of the Canyons Thursday night as principal Ben Wobrock led the event and awarded English teacher Eve Itaya, who closed a 35-year career. - ➤ On Wednesday, May 27, Saugus High School held its graduation at College of the Canyons, where 596 students earned diplomas and honors (including National Merit and state seal of civic engagement). - ➤ On Wednesday near Castaic Lake, inmates from Pitchess Detention Center trained under Los Angeles County Fire Department supervision & CDCR for the upcoming fire season. - ➤ Los Angeles County Public Health launched a heat dashboard that tracks emergency department visits & deaths from extreme heat as temperatures rise over the coming months. The tool shows data by age and region and will guide targeted prevention for vulnerable groups. SCVNews.com

- ➤ College of the Canyons sophomore Hazel Rhodes was named Western State Conference Female Track Athlete of the Year after winning back-to-back 400m state championships and multiple titles at the April meets — with coach Lindie Kane and assistant coach Denean Howard-Hill recognized for their leadership.
