Jeff Stabile received the 2025 Stigma Buster Award on May 10 at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital when U.S. Rep. George Whitesides gave him the honor & he was recognized for many years working with veterans & helping with mental health.

On May 26, 1956, a crowd gathered near Newhall to dedicate what is now Placerita Canyon Natural Area — a park that honors the legend of Don Francisco Lopez and its ties to California’s early gold rush.

The ceremony included local residents and officials who marked the site’s historic significance for public recreation.

Authorities responded to a half-acre brush fire (dubbed the Bouquet Fire) near Calypso Lane and Lakemore Drive in Canyon Country on Monday afternoon and stopped the fire by 1:34 p.m. after dispatch at 1:11 p.m. and arrival at 1:15 p.m., with no injuries or property damage reported.

Include Everyone Project SCV has announced its adaptive performing arts summer camp Level Up, which will run in June at Cube Ice and Entertainment Center (27745 Smyth Drive, Valencia) and end with a public performance at Newhall Family Theater on June 27.

The camp offers two sessions (ages 3–5 with a $75 fee and ages 5 and up with a $125 fee per week) and registration is now open.

Today, the Canyon Theatre Guild opened the Paul Slade Smith comedy The Angel Next Door at its theater in Old Town Newhall—local audiences now have a new live show to enjoy.

On May 24, Santa Clarita Christian School held its graduation ceremony on campus where 28 students received their diplomas.

The event featured messages of faith from administrator Mark Wilson and speeches from student leaders emphasizing gratitude to teachers and parents — a celebration that blended academics with spiritual guidance.

The Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees will meet on May 28 at 4 p.m. in room UCEN 258 at the Valencia campus of College of the Canyons—followed by a joint session with the COC Foundation to review a report on the Silver Spur Celebration and related scholarship funds.

Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo announced her 2025 legislative package of 20 bills that aim to lower costs and boost safety in Santa Clarita.

Many of the bills (including proposals on utility savings, veterans' tax relief, and landfill safety) have passed key committees and are moving forward in the legislative process.
