COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ruby, a 2-year-old pitbull, & Midnight, a 3-year-old pitbull, have been at the Santa Clarita Valley Animal Care Center since early March and are seeking homes. Visitors may adopt them Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 31044 N. Charlie Canyon Road.  Hometown Station
  • On Saturday, May 16, 70 graduating seniors were recognized at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center for enlisting in the U.S. armed services; they received medals + copies of the Constitution after taking the enlistee oath, with retired Maj.   • The WiSH Foundation held its annual car show at Valencia Town Center on Saturday, May 16 (raising funds for student wellness programs in the Hart district) with over 100 vehicles, and the event featured a beer garden, kids corner and DJ that attracted loyal locals and new visitors.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • City Cinemas returns with free outdoor movie nights at local parks every fourth Friday from June through September, where families can enjoy films and food truck treats.  SCVNews.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The William S. Hart Union High School District’s Project 691 Robotics held a showcase at West Ranch High on Saturday, May 16 to display a robot that can move, throw objects and climb.   • The William S. Hart Union High School District Governing Board approved Nina Zamora as the new Director of Special Programs, effective July 1. Zamora—an alumna and former principal at Bowman High School—will manage special programs and categorical funding with her deep district ties.  Hometown Station

  • Metrolink is running on a weekend schedule for Memorial Day weekend starting today. Riders can enjoy a $10 SoCal Day Pass with unlimited rides and free trips for children under 18 on Saturday and Sunday — service is adjusted on selected lines and Rail2Rail is suspended until May 27.  Hometown Station
