  • Three local professionals are leading the Backpack Drive—an event to collect backpacks filled with school supplies for students at Canyon High and SCV Foster Youth, and donations can be made by contacting Henry Rodriguez’s office until July 31.  SCVNews.com
  • The annual Santa Clarita Valley Memorial Day Ceremony will take place Monday, May 26, at 10 a.m. at Eternal Valley Memorial Park (23287 Sierra Highway, Newhall) where veterans will be honored with a Condor Squadron flyover, a band performance and speeches from Maj.   • Mission Opera and Bella Cucina Italian Restaurant have announced Bella Notte, a monthly event that will combine live opera and authentic Italian dining to support the arts in Santa Clarita this fall. The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. every third Saturday at the restaurant on Seco Canyon Road—tickets cost $85 per person.  SCVNews.com

  • Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo camped for 24 hours near the burning Chiquita Canyon Landfill this weekend to show how the 90-acre fire is making local residents sick. She and Jane Williams urged state and local officials to declare an emergency—order help and relocation for affected families.  Hometown Station
  • On May 22, Senator Suzette Martinez Valladares of Santa Clarita applauded the U.S. Senate’s unanimous passage of the federal No Tax on Tips Act, which will let workers get a tax break on tips and now moves to the U.S. House. She added that she introduced a similar state bill, SB 17, with colleagues—hoping it will help service workers cope with high living costs.  Hometown Station
  • On Tuesday, the city budget officer reviewed Santa Clarita’s Capital Improvement Program for fiscal year 2025-26 at City Hall; the plan allocates 81.5 million dollars to 44 projects including a 34.5 million dollar park on Via Princessa and roadway modifications near Valencia Town Center to improve traffic flow.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • The Master's University Mustangs struggled on Tuesday with wet, windy conditions and a lightning delay but improved on Wednesday to finish tied for ninth in the NAIA Men’s Golf Championship. Seth Bishop led with a three-under 68 — his five birdies on the final eight holes put him in fifth on the individual leaderboard.  SCVNews.com
  • The Canyon High School girls track team won the CIF Southern Section Division 2 championship by beating Murrieta Valley by over 20 points — Kiera Donovan claimed her third straight discus title — and the team improved from last year’s third-place finish.   • The Cube in Valencia hosted the largest Spring Hockey Cup Tournament that began yesterday and will run until Monday as 47 teams from across California compete in 97 games on NHL, Olympic, and Pond rinks — the event features five age divisions. Families can join Sibling Camp Chillin' from Friday through Monday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for $10 per child per hour while enjoying local food and drinks.  Hometown Station
