COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Registration is now open for the Santa Clarita Valley Fourth of July Parade on Saturday, July 4 at 9 a.m. The parade starts at the Newhall roundabout, travels through Main Street and Lyons Avenue to finish on Avenida Dalbey + welcomes all residents to join this patriotic celebration.  Hometown Station

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A brush fire ignited along the Santa Clara River wash near Valencia Boulevard and Auto Center Court on Thursday evening and prompted multiple crews, including an LAFD helicopter, to respond (no injuries or property damage were reported) as westbound traffic was temporarily redirected.  Hometown Station
  • A brush fire north of Santa Clarita threatened structures on Thursday afternoon and led firefighters to issue evacuation and shelter in place orders as the blaze grew from 30 to 350 acres before its forward progression was halted.  Hometown Station

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Wednesday, May 27, the Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library will host Different Zines, Different Themes from 6-7 p.m. at 18601 Soledad Canyon Road (Santa Clarita).  SCVNews.com
  • Join the Newhallywood Silent Film Festival today through Sunday, May 24, in Old Town Newhall as it features silent film screenings with live music and special programs (including late-night horror films) that honor early cinema pioneers like Rudolph Valentino and F.W. Murnau.  SCVNews.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Graduation season in our community is in full swing, with Master’s University, Golden Oak Adult School, and California Institute of the Arts having celebrated their ceremonies, plus Learning Post Academy and Trinity Classical Academy set to graduate today at 6 p.m.; more ceremonies are scheduled through early June.  SCVNews.com
  • Students at Canyon High School's App Development program showcased original apps and video games at their demo day yesterday on campus.   • A resident in Bridgeport warns that wildlife crossing Bridgeport Lake near Newhall Ranch Road faces dangerous conditions, as heavy traffic recently orphaned goslings on May 19. SPORTS NEWS

  • After Round 2 wins in the CIF Southern Section baseball playoffs, Saugus and Golden Valley will play in the baseball Quarter Finals today, representing the Foothill League in SCV.  SCVNews.com
  • Golden Valley High School honored nine student-athletes on Wednesday who will continue their academic and athletic careers in college. Six already committed while basketball player Wyatt Printz and flag football players Miracle Henderson and London Brown signed new letters of intent, marking the flag football program’s first college commitments.  Hometown Station
  • Local high school track teams shone in the CIF finals as Canyon, West Ranch, Hart and Saugus secured podium finishes and qualified for the masters meet scheduled for tomorrow at Moorpark High.
